ATMH1804 Nike Hercules Missile 1/40 Scale Plastic Model Kit Atlantis Models
During the Cold War era, the Nike Hercules was the second combat-ready land based surface to air missile to be put into operation by the US Army. The dart shaped 27 foot long missile carried a deadly atomic warhead and had a range of 70 miles. The warhead was designed to insure that detonation could only occur at altitudes sufficiently high to prevent damage to friendly surrounding territory. The collaborative effort between the Douglas Aircraft Co., Army Ordnance Corp, Bell Telephone Lab, and Western Electric Co. was a fine example of American industry working together to solve complex problems and protect American cities in the event of a full scale nuclear attack.
Kit is molded in white styrene and measures 13.5 inches (342.9mm) long when completed. Kit contains over 70 parts and comes with authentic decals and detailed instructions. Skill level 2 for ages 14 and up. Glue, paint and assembly required.
